We reimagined their website from the ground up, building a platform that makes book discovery intuitive, navigation effortless, and the connection between readers and ideas feel seamless. The result is a digital experience that honours Sakal's heritage while firmly positioning them for the future.
01 - THE BRIEF
Sakal Publications came to us with a clear need: a digital platform worthy of their legacy. With decades of publishing excellence behind them, their online presence hadn't kept pace. We were tasked with reimagining their website as a modern, user-centric experience one that simplifies navigation, structures a vast content library, and makes book discovery feel natural. All while staying true to the brand readers have trusted for generations.
02 - THE CHALLENGE
Sakal's existing website reflected a catalogue-first mindset — comprehensive, but overwhelming. Users struggled to navigate a sprawling collection of books across languages, subjects, and age groups without clear categorisation or intuitive pathways. The experience wasn't designed for today's reader, who expects speed, clarity, and seamless browsing across devices. The challenge was to bring order to complexity without losing the richness of what Sakal offers.
03 - THE OBJECTIVES
Transform Sakal Publications' digital presence into a scalable, reader-first platform. Key focus areas included restructuring information architecture for clarity, improving book discovery through smarter categorisation, delivering a consistent and responsive experience across all devices, and building meaningful connections between readers, authors, and Sakal's ever-growing catalogue.
05 - Typography
Type choices for Sakal weren't just aesthetic they were functional. With a readership that spans languages, age groups, and devices, the typography needed to carry authority without sacrificing approachability. We selected a pairing that balances editorial gravitas with everyday legibility.
06 - Colour Palette
Sakal's colour system was built to do two things simultaneously honour a brand with deep institutional recognition, and feel at home in a modern digital environment. Every colour has a role, and every ratio has a reason.
From the first wireframe to the final pixel, we owned the complete design process. Our work spanned UX research and journey mapping, information architecture, UI design, and content systems all working in concert to produce an experience that feels effortless to the reader.
The result is a platform that handles the complexity of a vast multilingual catalogue behind the scenes, while presenting users with a clean, intuitive interface in the foreground in both Marathi and English, across every device they choose to read on.
08 - MOBILE VIEW DESIGN
For Sakal's audience, mobile isn't a secondary screen it's often the primary one. We designed the mobile experience from the ground up, not as a scaled-down version of the desktop, but as its own considered interface.
Navigation was reimagined for thumb-friendly interaction, content hierarchies were tightened for smaller viewports, and book discovery was optimised for quick, confident browsing on the go. The result is an experience that feels native to mobile — fast, focused, and just as rich as the full web platform.
